The Cambrian Mountains lie across the heart of Wales in between the better known areas of Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. Once proposed as a national park, and subsequently rejected by opposition from a combination of landowners and local authorities, the area is still campaigning for some form of recognition of its landscape value, such as AONB status
